Tracking Santa...

Another of our traditions ... DH and I at check at least ONCE the NORAD - Website to track Santa ... Even though we don't have any kids (yet) I think it's a funny thing to do ... just love it!! :)

And Santa just has been over Paris!! :)

Heilig Abend ...

...that's Christmas Eve in German, and the main day of Christmas in Germany (and I believe for all of mainland Europe).

Mad dash about printing pictures for FIL's next entry (which I have finished now after Christmas Dinner and opening the first present - I know, I know, I should have done it earlier, but hey - it wouldn't be me if I wouldn't do things at the last minute!!! ;) ), going for a relaxed swim with DH and then the rush up to Christmas Dinner ... I had put the duck in the oven at 3.45pm and started to prepare the carrots and sprouts and also boiled the giblets for part of the gravy.

In between I helped DH with the tree ... and we nearly had a bit of an argument because the tree didn't fit into the base properly (which was not our fault - it was cut off the wrong way). But the tree is up (I'll get some pics tomorrow once I have transferred them from the Camera), the presents underneath and the duck, sprouts, red cabbage, dumplings, carrots and pud are in our bellies!! :)

DH and I always open one present on Christmas Eve (just to honour my heritage) and it usually is DH's "funny present" - another of our traditions. I always get him one "funny" present ... Christmas after our Wedding it was a CD with Waltzes (because he had to learn how to do a slow waltz for our wedding)...and this year it was a "Banana Guard" from Lakeland ... To put it mildly, we had oodles of laughter there ... you have to admit, it kinda looks dodgy... ;) DH is going to show it to his mum tomorrow ... oooops!! ;)

I got some nice Christmas White Chocolate from Whittards with mini marshmallows ... yummmm!!!!

Only 3 days to go...

...and it still doesn't really feel Christmassy around here.... :( Not sure why, but I seem to have that "slump" nearly every year. Maybe I should follow the UK tradition of putting up the tree a week before Chrimbo? Or put more decos up? Or maybe leave the ironing and housework as it is? NO IDEA!!!!

So if anyone has seen some Christmas spirit flying about, please let me know and send some to me. :(

Back to finish the ironing ... and then make some cookies ... not sure if that does the trick? Have been watching Xmas movies like stupid ... and it still doesn't work.... :(

Sorry for having been AWOL...

My Mutsch arrived on Friday and I had to spend lots of time with her ... and then we had a hic-up with her return flight yesterday ... she missed it because they changed the gate, and Edinburgh Airport has not the best tannoy to announce these changes.

Well... I took her to the airport ok today at lunchtime, went quickly shopping at the Gyle and now am feeling totally drained (yesterday was a bit of a worry really!!). Hope to catch up with things tomorrow and will post some back dated photos and hopefully Christmas Journal entries etc.

Doesn't help that my body decided today to start the "witch" (menses) again after a couple of days nothing... must be the hormone treatment.... :(

Christmas Journal Entry #14

The LO shows the lyrics of "Driving home for Christmas" and also sheet music for some of the German Carols I can remember.

Journalling reads:

I love Christmas Carols, the more pop-culture songs and I have several CDs which are playing every December.

I am surprised how many Christmas Carols from Germany are still saved in my brain - I made an ad-hoc list and came up with the following: "Alle Jahre wieder", "Am Weihnachtsbaume die Lichter brennen", "Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen", "Fröhliche Weihnacht überall", Ihr Kinderlein kommet", "Kling, Glöckchen, klingeling", "Kommet, Ihr Hirten", "Lasst uns froh und munter sein", "Leise rieselt der Schnee", "Macht hoch die Tür, die Tor' macht weit", Morgen, Kinder, wird's was geben", "Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann", "Oh, Du fröhliche", "Oh Tannenbaum", "Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht", "Süsser die Glocken nie klingen" & "Vom Himmel hoch da komm ich her". That's 17 carols. I think I can count the English ones I know on one hand ... will have to change that!!

My absolute favourite Christmas Song, however, is "Driving home for Christmas" by Chris Rea. Followed by "Last Christmas" by Wham.

Quick house tidy ...

... before my Mutsch arrives. :) So that's my main priority ... doubt I will get any studying done before 2007 now ... far too much to do!

Tea today was "Elefant - Traumtaenzer-Tee" (Redbush tea with Orange peel, hibiscus, apple pieces, lemongras, bits of orange and raspberries etc). Quite nice actually.

Feel good music

Ok ... the weather is bad, I'm feeling crap, so I had to update my blog a little ... under my photo you'll find a YOUTUBE video with my #1 feel good happy song! :) Enjoy!

*Because of Christmas I have moved the "feel good music" to this post ... :)

Got my phone call from the docs ... apparently it's normal to have one last big heavy period and then it will go down to just spotting (sorry TMI!). PHEW!!!

Well... at least I got one of the other side effects of the Zoladex - Moodswings - and had a good cry just before the phone call. Just all creeping up again, diagnosis, stress with Christmas (ok, I'm doing that myself I suppose), stress with studying (there's no reason for that yet, but I feel like my brain is not taking anything in!!) and just in general feeling crappy!!! :(

Waiting for the postie now and then will go to the PO and the gym. Just to get it out of the way.

Crappy day... :( (Beware! Rant - mode!!!)

It's absolutely miserable outside (chucking down with rain and windy as well) and I really don't want to go out but will have to as I have to go to the post office to get 2 larger envelopes to send pressies ... and I want to go to the gym to do my next calorie burning.

It's a full week now I think that we had that miserable weather - nothing but rain, sometimes sleet and hail as wel...! That's enough to pull someone down. :(

But no, it's even worse here!! The hormone treatment is supposed to put me onto a temporary menopause, i.e. no "witch" coming along (menses)... but whatever is going wrong inside me, I am having the full blown thing with cramps and all the mess... :( Have phoned the docs as it's fairly upsetting/worrying (wrong dose for me?) and I am now waiting for a call back.... but of course it's Wednesday, and it's now 12:15pm ... can I expect a callback today? Have the funny feeling I have to wait until tomorrow to get my answer... and they probably phone when I am on the way to have lunch with some of my ex-colleagues....

And of course that stupid tickly cough is not gone EITHER!!! *RANT*

Tea today - "Kaminfeuer" (Fire in the Fireplace), which is Hibiscus, Apple, Cinnamon, Almonds ... but I still have to finish yesterday's tea (Told you I don't like fruit teas that much!!)!!

At least I got nearly all European Christmas Cards done... just 2 to go.

Still no new entry...

Have been studying today and posted the rest of the Ebay stuff. Have done 5 normal cards and just finished my first ever medallion card (poinsettia) for my Mutsch and now will write my German Christmas Letter so I can get all the European Xmas cards send out tomorrow (last posting date). Once all the cards are issued I will try to catch up with the journal.

Today and tomorrow are fruit teas ... that's not really my thing, but it's not too bad. Today's was "Pina Colada" - so Hibiscus, Coconut, Pineapple and orange.

Where's the day gone???

Woke up shattered ... still battling with that stupid cough (coming up 4 weeks now). Around lunchtime I took the bus to pick up a compost carry bin which I got through freecycle and also wanted to post the last bit of US Christmas post and some of the Ebay sellings.

PO at our end was busy - so I caught the bus, got to the next PO - which had lunch break for a further 10 mins and already there was a looong queue. So I decided to get the bin first (2 biggish items carrying about ... 1 "pizza box" and one big padded envelope - both with several magazines, so HEAVY) and when I got back the queue in the PO was still there ... I caught the bus home and at our PO the queue was going out of the door! Needed to post the things and wanted to get it done before going to the gym though so waited for 15 mins and finally got the stuff sent off!! ;)

Gym - decided to do the rowing first and then the cross country machine and managed to do 368 kcals.

Got home, sat down to read post and then went on to prepare dinner...and then went upstairs to sort out online postage printing for the other Ebay items ... I try to avoid the queues at the POs now!!

Totally shattered, back hurts a little (sore muscles ... not used to do the rowing machine) and tired as well.

Not in the mood or state of mind to do any catch up with the Christmas Journal or to do any cards, so will leave this for tomorrow ... as well as studying and cleaning the house a bit. At least I am not going to have a trip to the gym (that's due on Wednesday again).

Tea today: "Winterzauber" (Winter magic - a redbush tea with cinnamon, cardamon, almonds).

The Lobster Story

If you've read my blog you'll know that DH had the idea to buy a cooked frozen lobster. I told him that's fine, but he'd have to cook it as I've never have cooked a lobster (neither has he).

I took the beast out of the freezer yesterday at 11:30am as the instructions said it would take 6 hours to defrost. When DH came home from the Youth Game in Glasgow that thing had still lots of ice stuck to it. DH had his usual "hurricane" and was not happy at all because it changed plans for food etc. He's really a drama queen sometimes!! ;) We ended up having one batch of the sausages I bought at the Crafts for Christmas fair last weekend (yummie ones!!) and agreed to have the lobster today.

DH went to Aldi to get his new MP3 player and then went off to training, which I decided to skip today...far too much to do.

So ... as I guessed... I ended up cooking the beast!! :) It wasn't very big to begin with, and the meat coming out was even less... but it was delish! :) Had it with the left over veg from yesterday (broccoli, carrots, sugar snap peas & mangetout) and rice.

Not rushing to get it again, but it was really a nice meal. And it was more the fight of getting the meat out of the shell than cooking it (cooking was only 5 mins).

Entry Day 10 - Wrapping

Right ... I think I start my catch up from the back and counting down to 5! :)

This one was fairly quick ... so I am trying to do another one.

Happy 2nd Advent!! :)

Candle not burning yet, but will light it when I am downstairs doing some housework. That has to be done before I can "play" again and catch up with the scrapping.

Today's tea was "Rooibos Pflaume Zimt" (Plum & Cinnamon) which is a very nice surprise after yesterday's horrible tea!!! :)

Day 5 - Advent Calendars

Well... here is the first catch up part ... ;) Only 5 to go tomorrow!! :o

The journalling behind the Chocolade advent calendar reads:

I've always had an Advent calendar! In my childhood it was always a picture one plus my "gift" advent calendar - it's a Christmas tree made of thick dark green ropes with gold hoops on it where my Mutsch ties little gifts (Sweets, small toys like Smurfs etc) on it and every pack was numbered. I really have to ask my Mutsch where the set of these trees have gone.... split it probably, one for my big sis (well... my nephew) and one for me? It could become an heirloom!!

When I got older the picture advent calendar was replaced by the Chocolate ones - and my Mutsch even keeps sending them to us in Scotland now, even though we have Lidl here and can buy them ourselves!! :) It seems that even this sending over of the Chocolate Calendar is turning into a tradition! :)

Nowadays our Advent Calendars consist of 2 Choccie ones (one each for DH and me) and a wooden Tree one which has small wooden ornaments behind each door. This year I have added another one - a Tea Advent Calendar. It's 24 small felt stocking shapes with pegs where small packets of tea "Probierpackungen" (tasters) are attached. Different flavoured green, black, rooibos and fruit teas. I asked my sister to get me that calendar and I LOVE to try a new tea every day (you usually get 3 mugs out of it).

Another tradition to "count down" to Christmas is our "Adventskranz" (advent wreath). It was always with red thick pillar candles and a real wreath .... until this year - I bought a wreath making kit from Opitec because it was always a trouble for us to get a fresh wreath. Doug and I usually tried to get one from the German Congregation's Advent Market but sometimes we didn't get the date for it in time (we're not members of the congregation) and wreaths at B&Q, Homebase or Dobbies are fairly expensive. Of course there's always the problem with needling and Doug's allergy!!! So I compromised this year - fake advent wreath (and I like what I've done with it!!) and real Christmas Tree.

Still trying to catch up

I am 4 days behind with my Journalling but think I should be able to catch up - will take tomorrow to try my best! :)

As for today's tea ... I've had 2 mugs of it and that was it ... couldn't take the chilli anymore, so it went down the drain. Have checked my tea advent calendar and there is no further ayurverda tea as nasty surprise ... well, there has to be ONE tea you don't like, eh?

Gym workout went fine... burnt another 369 kcals - so if I keep that up I should be able to get the 1500 kcal in 2 days ... but I am planning to go Monday, Wednesday and Friday to the gym... just to get back into the swing of things.

IRN BRU Advert

I just had to add this to my Blog .... LOVE the advert (and DH always cracks up when he sees it ... probably because he doesn't like THE SNOWMAN at all). :)

I'm not really a herbal tea person...

And Chilli and Tea (or Hot Chocolate probably) don't work I think.... however, my tea today is a herbal ayuverda tea (funnily enough - it's KAPHA and it's apparently my Dosha!).

Kapha has the following ingredients: Ginger, blackberry leaves, Melissa, Parsley, Fennel (hate that!!), Coriander, Chili und Cardamom.

That tea is really very spicy and I am able to take one sip ... that burns my throat!!! But I still have the hope that it's helping with that irritating cough. The burning in the throat kinda takes my mind off it!! ;) And once the burning sensation has gone it's actually ok... I think! ;)

Right, having lunch now and then will go to the gym for part 2 of the challenge.... I burnt
360 kcals yesterday!! :)

Today's picture shows my tea maker my Mutsch got me in Germany. It's got a sieve container under the lid where you place your tea leaves. Hot water is going up the copper pipe so you have even distribution of the tea. The pipe can move about 1.5cms and therefore can always collect water (or tea.. LOL). So you have constantly liquid going through your tea leaves.

I LOVE that little gadget!!!

Am on the New Beta Blogger now...

Wonder how much trouble I'll have with it - the comments about it are divided, but I think it will work out ok.... :)

Currently watching "Cold Case" and then am going to clean the inside of the kitchen windows and hang up the little lantern lights.

After lunch I'm off to the gym to do my 30 mins or whatever it takes to get a start on the 1500 kcal by 17th December!!

Still so much to do ... and have to catch up with the Journal Entries, but I hope to make a headway on this later tonight.

Today's Advent Calendar Tea is a green tea called "Asatsuyu" - a very fresh green tea (Sunflowers and "Pfingstrose").

Thursday, 7 December 2006

Ok... no challenge as yet...

Suddenly went absolutely black outside after I'd finished the last entry ... so I am planning to go to the gym tomorrow .... :) But I am still up for the challenge!!!

And specially for Sharon ... Today's tea was "Wilde Huehner Banden Tee" (Wild chick gang!!) .... LOL. A creamy Rooibos tea with Cherry and Strawberry ... nice taste!! :)

Only about 5hrs sleep last night and woke up with a thumping headache just to get the whole package!! :(

Was supposed to meet a friend for lunch today but her daughter was feeling unwell yesterday so we agreed to skip it. I still went into town to do some shopping (got DH's last Xmas pressie and provided a wish list with Stampers Grove so DH can have a look there as he always seems to be stumped for presents for me!! HUH!

Waiting for the Telewest Man to turn up ... one of our neighbouros needs their help and Telewest thinks the big connection box is in our garden (well.. it isn't - it's next door!). Have to wait for them to pop around to tell them before I can leave the house.

Well... I came across this here yesterday (Calorie burning challenge) and I thought we may as well do it... both of us need to lose weight, and I usually rake up around 300 kcal during one 30 min cardio session anyway.

So once the Telewest man has been I'm going to the gym to get signed up and burn the first calories !! ;)

I got Christmas - tagged!! :)

Eggnog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot chocolate - with squishy cream. And maybe with a little shot of Baileys!! ;)

Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Good question - not sure? When I was a child we had the "Christkind" (Baby Jesus) delivering the presents (German thing). The Santa thing will be a decision to make when we have kids I believe.

Coloured lights on tree/house or white?
WHITE!! Used to be real candles in my childhood, but DH as a problem with flames ...

Do you hang mistletoe?
Not yet - but have to say it would be a nice tradition ... now ... where do you get mistletoe?

When do you put up your decorations?
Decorations are usually going up between 1st Advent and Christmas Eve. The tree, however, is not being put up until Christmas Eve (again, a German family tradition).

What is your favorite holiday dish?
Favourite? No idea really - love all the things we make for Christmas. Maybe .. BUTTERSTOLLEN!! :)

Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
Being there with the whole family. And my big sis and I had to do some "entertainment" before we could open our presents - usually a Christmas song or a Christmas poem!

When and how did you learn that Santa isn't real?
I am not sure ... can't really remember, but think it was probably around the age of 6?

Can you ice skate?
Yes - but am the only one in the family in Scotland apart from my FIL - we don't get to skate often as I can't skate properly on the used rinks in the Gardens.

Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Yes - in Germany you open all gifts on Christmas Eve, over here it's all Christmas Day - so DH and I agreed we open 1 gift on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas Day.

How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
Real tree - colour schemes are red & gold or blue & silver (again, an old family thing) - but I tend to stick to the red & gold now. Baubles, tinsel garlands (used to use tinsel/angel hair but not anymore - too messy!!), some small gifts and electrical lights that look like candles.
Then I have several individual Christmas Baubles that I purchased either in Germany (Lauschaer Glas), in the USA or over here.

Snow! Love it or Dread it?
LOVE IT!!! But don't like shovelling or driving when it's snowing...

What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Being with family.

Do you remember your favorite gift?
Favorite? Got so many ... my Canon 350D (2005) and my notebook (this year).

What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Christmas Pud ... and trifle! :)

What tops your tree?
A spire ... like the Russian churches ... again, it's something German. Never heard about that fairy before I celebrated my first Christmas with DH and his family!!

What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Opening Advent calendars! :) And the Advent Wreath.

Which do you prefer giving or Receiving gifts?
Truthfully ... probably giving a little tick more - I just love the look on people's faces when the open gifts they really like!!

What is your favorite Christmas Song?
Several - but my absolute favorite must be "Driving home for Christmas" by Chris Rrea.

Candy Canes on the tree?
No - but I like trees with it.

I am going to tag Sharon, Anam and Joanne. Hopefully they'll play along! :)

Headache ... and mad cleaning day!! ;)

No studying today ... woke up with a thumping headache - think it's because of the insomnia and both are on the list of side effects!! :(

However, after lots of cold pack application I felt okay enough to physically do something ... head decided not to play along with studying but I cleaned the outside windows of the kitchen, cleaned the front door and managed to figure out how to get the outside light cover off - so DH fixed that when he got home.

It's a start to the more extensive Christmas Cleaning I'd say! :)

The tea of the day... "Lemon" (Black tea with lemon flavour).

Tuesday, 5 December 2006

Busy Day ... again

It's just not getting easier, is it? Studying, getting Christmas sorted etc.

Today I managed to study for 3 hours, get 5 of my handmade cards done (only 15 to go) and the Scout Post Cards handed off at Drum Brae Leisure Centre as well.

Once back from the PO and the Leisure Centre I had to get the living room a bit tidied (i.e. put the ironing away etc.) as we had a small committee meeting coming up.

Not much done then, but hey - happens.

Flavour of the day: "Rooitea Apfelstrudel" (Apple strudel). Yummmie!! :) It's getting better and better!! :)

Monday, 4 December 2006

On the 4th of December... we go. It's Monday, and I have managed to study for 3 hours and still didn't manage to get 5 cards done or post the Scout Post Cards.

Here is the entry for Day 4 ... I don't like the way I've done the journalling, but I am not going to re-do it. Won't have the time. Bad enough that I had to re-do the photo as I didn't manage the stazon stamping the first time!!!

Today's tea was "Rudolph Mit Der Roten Nase" (Rudolph with the red nose) - a nice Christmassy Rooibos tea. :)

Sunday, 3 December 2006

Oh the weather outside is frightful...

... but unfortunately no snow! Instead, we have high winds/gales of 60 - 80 mph. And to top that up there's LOADS of rain ... Got nearly drenched three times today! Went to training this morning (and missed out on the external HD for DH because we didn't get to Aldi before training! :( ) - indoors fortunately - and managed to get all addresses onto my laptop, so will start the Christmas Cards tomorrow.

After training (big turnout for the first real training - and HC really drilled them with fitness!!) we went to Aldi and Lidl for food shopping... including a pre-cooked Lobster DH insists on making next Saturday ... I wouldn't DARE to cook something like that... ;) I'll keep you up-to-date as to how successful it was ... just in case we'll have some "emergency food" in the house. How does one open the lobster? Can you use a Nut cracker thingy for it???? Serious question here!!! ;)
Well.. I have read Shim's prompt for today and have done the journalling on the PC already but as we only returned home at 5:30pm I skip the LO and do it with tomorrow's.

Thanks to all the lovely ladies who have commented on my blog about my 2 entries already!! Much appreciated!

Think I have finally some side effects from the Zoladex ... am feeling tired (well... that may just be normal for me LOL) and suddenly had a red face - hot flushes are part of it. Face was totally red and temp went up to 38 degrees in my ear, but the rest of the body was normal temp. Have to check if that's a hot flush? ;)

Okidok ... better go and get some other things done.

Today's tea was "Sencha Claus" btw - green tea with almond and oranges. NICE!!

First Advent!! :)

Usually we have a real advent wreath, but in the last couple of years it was always a problem to get it - or they were too expensive, so this year I caved in and bought a craft kit to make my own from Opitec and I am actually quite happy with how it turned out. Am planning on getting some pine aroma therapy oil just to put a few drops onto the wreath for the effect...

And here's the entry for Day 3 of the Christmas Journal - Today's prompt was "Christmas Cards" ... anyone got any yet? I haven't yet. :) I have included this year's English Newsletter as well - but haven't been able to fit it into one of the pockets so it's behind the journalling cards.

Journalling reads:

We've not received any Christmas Cards yet - and I have none sent. I always have the good intentions to make my own cards - but it usually is just that - good intentions. It doesn't help that Doug always seems to buy Christmas Cards in the Boxing Day/January sales - I think I have 6 different boxes!!

My other aim since 2005 is to send local cards by Scout Post - so I really try to have them ready the first weekend in December - collection usually ends on 6th December. Then I have the cards going to my penpals in Australia, Canada, USA, Europe (3 different last posting dates) and then UK. Aim again is to send them before the last posting dates but it usually is a mad rush.

And it's always me sending Christmas Cards - Doug doesn't bother really. Not sure why I am including people who are friends of Doug's parents etc, but I am duly updating my address book with people who send us Christmas Cards. And I may just prune out the ones who haven't sent us cards.

Most of my cards include a "Family Newsletter" - specially for people who live far away and I haven't been very good with keeping in touch with them. Several of my friends are getting Christmas E-mails - just to keep up-to-date with today's technology.

Actually I have planned to transfer my address book from my Psion to my notebook (well, finish it) which means manual typing as the Psion has only a analogue connection cable and the only PC who takes this is Doug's old PC which is not connected to anything anymore.

Christmas Journal Entry #2

Phew!!! Took me longer than I thought!!! :) Maybe I should leave the crafty bits out ... I am a slow scrapper after all (found that out at the Cyber Crop!!). But have to say I LOVE that LO. Used acetate with stazon white opaque (over photo), snowflake eyelets, snowflake button and snowflake vellum sticker. The prompt today suggested we cut a paper snowflake ... well, I had three attempts and am absolutely rubbish at it!! So I decided I try my luck with a quilled snowflake ... first time ever for me to do a snowflake and you can see the wonky result! LOL.

Christmas Journal Entry #1

One's scanned - still mulling over entry #2 but will get this done today as well..

Can't believe I have quoted "Advent Calendar" twice (in English and German :o )!!! Suppose ... I got 3 calendars, so that's surely allowed??? ;)

There are sooo many more words I could have used on that LO, like "Weihnachtsmarkt" (Christmas Market) - that's one of the biggies I am missing over here. Yes, we do have the German Christmas Market at the Museums (which is funnily being done by people who have stalls at the Frankfurt Christmas Market) but the prices seem to be taken from €€ and the currency just changed to ££, so fairly expensive. And IT'S NOT ENOUGH!!! Where is my BAUBLES stall - think I have to send my Mutsch there before she's coming over to get me one bauble... :) Oh no ... just checked their Online shop... BAD IDEA!!! LOL!

Anyway ... here is my entry #1 for all of you who have been waiting already (and maybe thinking that I haven't done it after all!! ;) )... Still trying to figure out how I am going to do my dates - am waiting for a circle punch which may be a little too big so may have to change my idea again.

Today's flavor was ....

Gwendolina's Backaepfelchen!!!
(Black tea with baked apple - probably apple crunch flavor)

Currently doing my second entry in the journal and will post both the first and the second entry asap. Sorry for the delay... :O

Have been stash shopping... and spend quite a lot of money on it (thanks Oma Meckel ... that'll be Christmas sorted then!! ;) ).

  • Stazon Black and Opaque White (plus one set for Lisa)
  • DCWV Christmas Card Stock 8.5 x 11 (good enough for the Christmas Journal)
  • 8x8 Album (for my "Book of me")
  • Things for my Crop Secret Santa
  • Things for my Stocking Swap Swapee
  • Christmas Embellies (Bottle caps, dome stickers etc.)
  • Christmas word stamps
  • A4 box with embellishment boxes (Storage is always good)
  • 3 sets of Brads
  • Patterned paper DC comics (for pics of DH! ;) )
  • 1 Whale of a punch 2" cirlce punch (which will be delivered Monday or Tuesday)
  • 2 sets sausages (well.. you know craft fairs - they always get either choccies or nuts etc in - and I thought better sausages than choccies ... ;) )
And that's it I believe .... :) Wanted to get some wool for knitting my gnomes but then dismissed that - may get some at the charity shops.

Off to finish entry #2 and then will be back with the photos!!! :)

What is it with moving house in December????

Well, our neighbours are moving... BOTH - left and right. And I promise, we don't smell... ;) Neither do we listen to loud music.

Mmmh, it's a thing with getting a garage, a bigger house (how much bigger do you want it? The smaller one to the right is 4 bedrooms!!) and Vicki and Graham want a bigger garden (she's a florist).

Shame that Vicki & Graham are moving. We really had a nice friendship, cuppa teas, watching DVDs, having BBQs.... but at least they're not moving far - just about 30 mins walk from here - 5 mins by car.

Just feels weird - we all moved into the houses in 2002 after they had been redecorated etc. All new in and now they are all moving! :o

DH and I won't be moving. We love our house ... 4 bedrooms + study is enough. Well... saying that we won't be moving... let's say we won't be selling our house. We still have that idea of moving to Canada for a couple of years at some point ...

Just hope they get into the new houses ok - both have been using the same Movers and they had identical vans!! LOL.

Off to study a bit before making dinner and then rewarding myself with my first Christmas Journal Entry!! :)

1st December - Advent Calendars

Well... we usually have 3. One chocolate each from Lidl (sent by my mum from Germany) and our Tree with the wooden ornaments from Costco which we bought in ...errr... 2004?

This year I have also a "Tea Advent calendar" - cute stockings with pegs and numbers and each hold one 25g taster pack of different teas. I got it through my sister from Der Teeladen and it's just great!!!

Today's flavor was "Rooitea Amarettini". YUMMMMM.

Christmas Journal - take 3 (!!!)

I signed up for Shimelle's Christmas Journal class for the first time in 2004 - and managed to do ZERO entries!!!

The second take was in 2005 - once you have signed up for the class you will be a member for life (or as long as Shimelle is running this annual class). That time I managed to embellish 2 pages ... but no journalling!!!

"Aller Gute Dinge sind 3" as we say in German, so this time I am geared up for it and want to finish the album/journal I have started in 2005. And I am sure I will manage this time, as I will have at least a little bit more time on hand.

I am sure having my friends Sharon (2nd year?) and Heather (first timer) doing the class will help as well... maybe a little competition and keeping each other on the "leash" for the journalling. :)

And I assume that Shimelle's "Manifesto" will help as well... making it public on my Blog etc. This means I really HAVE to stick to it... and I want to get at least 26 out of the 37 entries done... So please, keep nagging me!! ;)

Manifesto: Noun. A declaration of one's intentions.

Starting December first, I will keep a Christmas journal. In it, I will write something every day to reflect on the holidays of my past, enjoy the holidays of the present and dream about the holidays of my future. To some, this will be a stack of papers and trivial scribbles, but not to me. I am taking back my Christmas, I am letting it be something I relish and, most importantly, I am giving at least fifteen minutes every day to myself no matter how crazy this season becomes. I hope you will share, encourage and understand as I make something with my own hands, my own words and my own memories.

I may post some or all of my entries here. Other artists are doing this with me, and you can see their work here. Or you may join us at Shimelle's blog (link at the top of this post).

Above all: enjoy the season. I will.

I am going to use my HOTP "Christmas Album" 8x8" and the matching HOTP Christmas papers. May have a look for embellishments etc. at the "Creative Crafts and Gifts for Christmas" at Ingliston on Saturday.

So... let's get that thing started!! :)

Sorry for confusion ....

... I just thought I follow the example of big companies (and Heather K's suggestion) and merge my 2 blogs. Much easier for people to see my crafty stuff as well.

So here it is!! :)

Now I am just looking into how to change the template of the blog ... have to do something personalised really, but don't have a CLUE where to start... so if anyone has an idea (Websites etc.) as to how to do it (I appreciate offers to do it for me - but I really would like to have a go at it myself this time... ;) ) please let me know.

And it's only 1.20pm!!!

Had the outlaws picking up the car this morning - we're trying to sell it and will get their old one. DH has been phoning me like crazy about things (must have been 5 times already!!) and one of our players/committee members came around for me to have a look at his knee.

Just no TIME!!

Had a lot of "to do's" on my list for today but will have to cut some bits out as it seems.... mmmph!

Just chatting with a pal online and then make lunch (first thing I am going to eat today) and probably wrap some christmas presents.

Have to transfer my address book file from my Psion to the notebook - which means slowly typing in as the files are not compatible!!! :o Then will prepare my christmas card list and write my christmas letter.

Scout post is this weekend so I have to finish the Christmas Cards for Edinburgh tomorrow/Friday.

HEEEEELP!!!! Need the Time Turner from Harry Potter!!! ;)

It's the old migraine again....

Woke up with a very nasty migraine... ice pack didn't work, trying to sleep didn't either. The tablets I've taken were "talking to me" (i.e. reflux) and I only managed to eat something at 2pm!!!

But feeling better now. Will go for a little walk at 3pm to pick up DH's prescription and meds and get the TV mag as well.

Wonder if that's my body reacting to the Zoladex already ... even though the Doc said it would take about 2 days for the side effects to kick in.

Maybe I was just "due" another migraine again....

Have to start studying again tomorrow...want to do the last practical module in January and then ... hopefully ... will be able to pass the exam in February!!! :)

Selling again...

Just have spent about 7 hours preparing my listings for ebay and have been uploading them onto my turbo lister.

Now will only need a couple of minutes tomorrow morning (15p listing day) to get the whole shebang up.

Hopefully I am able to sell the stuff - it's just taking away space really!!!

I have been cyber cropping again....

Lots of scrapping today at the Harry Potter Cyber Crop and I got 5 LOs done plus 2 challenges. That's more than I did the last 6 Cyber Crops!! :)

Here are the LOs I have done:

Shimelle's "Magic in the Middle" Class:

Lynz's "Magical" Class

Nat's "Notions & Potions" Class

My "Mystery Kit" provided by ATDML

My "Hidden Challenge" Pre-crop Layout

Lousette's "It's Magic" Class

Phew - that's the LOs now all finally updated!! :)

Enjoy and please do leave comments.... :)

Nice day - shame about the mad dash!!

Fairly busy day today.... I had a docs appointment at 9am to get the injection - Zoladex implant - which went fairly ok. Doc said I can expect the side effects to kick in in about 2 days... OOOOOH JOY!!!! ;)

A quick check on the internet (e-mail and all that) and then rushed into town to meet with Sharon and Graeme before they returned to London. Had a nice Cinnamon Hot Chocolate Sundae and enjoyed my time chatting with Sharon while Graeme was mostly quiet (poor soul - nae chance with two crafters!! LOL).

I walked with them to the train station, waited until they were settled on the train and then went Christmas shopping - with the intention to go to Whittards, Lakeland, the German Christmas market, Pound Stretcher and Matalan. Well, I managed Whittards and Lakeland where I got a phone call from DH ordering me back home to take photos of our car. While on the phone to DH I had a missed call - my MIL. Phoned her back and she told me that my FIL would go and check if the car needs a wash and also take a picture if it doesn't. So I called back DH to update, then had a call again from MIL stating that the car didn't need wash and that FIL just took the photo. Again I phoned DH for an update and he asked me to still go home and take a photo of the car so we can put it up on the web for sale.

Still following me so far?????

Well, with the sun(???)set being very early nowadays that meant I had to get home for 3pm to take the photo in good light quality. So a mad dash through Lakeland, quick run to get my lunch (Subway - Meatball Marinara for £1.99), quick dash over the German Christmas market (and yes - the rain started again!!!! :( ) just to get a fleeting look and then I got onto my bus home.

When I got home I managed to take a photo ok and then had a deserved cuppa and my lunch!

Now off to try and suss out that turbo lister for Ebay!!!

Friday of Positives!!! :)

First of all - my friend Sharon is coming up. WAHEY!!!! We're going to meet her for our - traditional??? (LOL) - dinner at Jimmy Chungs. :) And then lots of talk and Xmas presents exchange. I'm missing her quite a lot, specially with all the news I had over the last 2 months.

Next good news - I have received my invite for the Module 12 (which I expected to have to skip because it's on 8 - 10 December) - but the invite shows 26-28th January!!! So ... I can do that AFTERALL!! :) Instead of waiting until March. WOW, that's soooo great!!!

And the 3rd - we have another CyberCrop starting this weekend .... not that I would be able to do lots tonight, but the rest of the weekend I'll be fine! :)

Question for you...

I'm wondering if I should merge my Crafty Blog and my normal blog ... just to keep everything in one place .... what do you think?

Little black hole...

Still can smell that gas ... all imagination, but hey!

Had a discussion with DH yesterday about things which ended up to be a debate/argument and then me cracking down finally. Tried to explain to DH that I need to get a bit more sympathy, that there should be different levels of sympathy between migraine, common cold and getting cut open for the 3rd time in 18 months.

Also need to be allowed to break down into tears from time to time - I'm not a robot (even though I seem to manage a good fasade for everyone there) and getting told that you don't seem to conceive naturally, then being told that the tubes must be removed, then knowing that you cannot conceive naturally full stop (and all the stupid talk at ex-work "it may just happen" is crap - because it AIN'T! Highway is gone... would be a blimming miracle!!!) and then that there is a cyst, cyst is getting drained, womb etc looks like warzone, and how about Endometriosis???? Makes you wonder how they top that??? "Oh yes, we put you on a 3-month hormone implant that will give you a menopause!"

Just getting to the point to say "What else?" Getting too much, want to take a break. And surely there's only so much a person can take, isn't it?

Don't want to get all the good "next goals" like "Oh, you have to loose weight", "go for a walk", "Make sure you move about so you don't get osteoporosis and your muscle tissue doesn't degenerate" (goodness, that doesn't happen in 1 week of getting out of bed frequently to get something to drink or to go to the loo anyway!!!!). I just want to be allowed to fall into my little black hole from time to time and get empathy as well....

Sometimes I wonder if I am totally weird for wanting that (as I feel that DH implies that I am not "normal") - but fortunately one of my best friend Sharon helped me over that (and confirmed that it's not ME who's weird ... LOL).

Quick laparoscopy

Went to NRIE for 8am on Wednesday and got my bed (21) allocated ... was first to arrive and then was told I was 3rd on the list. Mmmh... thought first come first serve, but obviously the surgeons are just rolling dice the day before.... :(

Standard procedure of getting into that nice backless nightie, talking to the anaesthesist (sp?) - told him about my grade 3 throat (didn't make a bit of a difference afterall!!!) - and then the wait. I took my pre-OP medication at 10:30am (DH left me at 9:30am for work) and believe I was rolled into the theatre at 12pm!!!

New for me I got straight into the theatre, not to the pre-OP room. Had to move from my bed onto the - very slimline!!! - OP table for the first time in my life. Also had the nice DVT socks on for the first time as well. Got the pads for the ECG and one on my leg (not quite sure what that was for?).

Talking to the anaesthesist about the canula and my crappy veins (he tried it on the left hand first, then went with a smaller one into my right arm with the information "I get a bigger one into your hand once you're out". And the horrible gas ... that's just something I'll always remember from OPs ... why can't they have vanilla flavoured gas? Or something along the lines? But no, it has to be the horrible stuff that makes me gagg every time I just think about it!!!

I came to in recovery at around 3pm ... either I had a later start or it was a longer OP again for me. Sore throat (as usual) and a cut lip (at least they left my teeth whole this time!!). Went up to the ward again without problems.

Dr T turned up for the evening ward round and told me fascinating things (well...)... first of all: The cyst was a chocolate cyst on the ... wait for it ... LEFT ovary (HUH? USS showed it always on the right?!?!?!). He drained it ok and also had to cut off the top of the ovary (scarry connection of the cyst?). And then ... FINALLY ... he confirmed that I have Endometriosis.

Not that DH and I have suspected it all along. I think I am showing most of the classic symptoms, including tiredness/lethargy!!! But the last 2 laparoscopies didn't show any so my endo must be very elusive.

A little scared by the constant wording of "Tiger Land" and "Tiger Country" when Dr T was describing my "nether regions" ... must look like a real war zone down there!!!!

Next step is to have a Zoladex implant set next week which will put me onto a 3-month menopause.... Wahey! :( I have done that twice for 2 weeks during down regging, but for 3 WHOLE MONTHS?!?!?! Including all the side effects???? Not too sure I can cope with that (but will, as usual!) and feel already sorry for DH with the mood swings .... :o

Make up your mind.....?!

Woke with a totally stuffy head, but fortunately still had some sinusitis tablets from the US and they worked a treat (well... supressing sinusitis pain etc.) and at 10am I got a phone call from NRIE from my consultant... asking if I could please come in for another scan??! Why? Didn't they do the scan correctly yesterday?????

Well, had to take the bus and calculated the time wrong ... so went for a quick shop at Lush for a Stocking Swap but resisted to buy Christmas Hot Chocolate at Whittards.

Scan went fine, apparently the cyst has gone down - so now we plan to have a laparoscopy tomorrow at 8am (or whenever it's my turn) and to drain the cyst. If it's bigger than anticipated then we have to cut a bit bigger....

That means my hospital stay can be anything from a day surgery (i.e. release in the afternoon) to full open surgery (release Friday to Sunday?).

mmmh... we'll see.... :o

Monday, 13 November 2006

Well... that's the decision through then...

i'll be under the knife on Wednesday. Don't have it 100% offically as the consultant who's doing the OP was not there for the scan (his research morning) but the cyst is still there, still the same size, so I believe I can pack my bag already. :o

Not that worried about the tissue report really (cancerous?) - much more worried about the docs damaging my good/easy to reach ovary (they have already punctured one of the arteries of one of the ovaries when they did the hydrosalpingectomy in January) and reduce my chances of my own eggs.

DH and I touched the subject of DEs (Donor Eggs) when we drove home... we just HAVE to. And while every surgery (we don't know whether key-hole or open yet) still has the risk of death it's not really something we want to touch. Goodness, I have seen the Day Surgery more often in the last 2 years than in my whole life!! Think I'll manage the OP on Wednesday as well!!!

DH seriously asked me if I'd rather adopt ... after all that stuff going about in my "nether regions" he didn't want to force me through pregnancy as well.... Gosh, that man is cute in a weird way.... ;)

And to top it all up - IDENTITY THEFT

Someone hacked into my Ebay account and listed something... I'm totally gobsmacked!!! What a CHEEK!!!

I am sure that they must have hacked into it, because I've made sure not to follow the link from any suspicious ebay e-mails....

Reported it - unfortunately the bidding's finished ... I so hope that the poor bidder has not paid anything yet.

I'm too stunned about that ... how can people DO THAT???

At least he/she didn't use my account to BID on things..... :O

I've got a coooooold.... :(

Got it from DH who has beens niffling about for the last couple of days. Nasty!! Hope this won't affect any impending OP ... the last word for that will be spoken tomorrow.

Oh... and tried our new toy - we've got a Webcam. :) Now I just have to get my family in Germany to set up SKYPE and get some Webcams as well... Love those little gadgets.

AAAH... TV just changed - DH got Football on Sky (NFL) and on Telewest (CFL). Need to get the connector for my laptop for TV.

Christmas Quilling

Have finally been able to do my ATCs for the "Favourite Movie" Swap on UKS ... with me being in hospital and all that has been delaying sending them out but will go to the PO tomorrow.

I will be getting all the "Batman Begins" ATCs back... looking forward to that really. :)

MUST SEE Movie!!!

DH and I went to see The Prestige and I have to say it's one of the best movies we've seen EVER!!!

Absolutely great, if a lot confusing. Every time you think you figured everything out there will be yet another twist. WOWEEE!!!

Definitely have to say: GO AND SEE IT!!! And I hope you'll like it as much as we did!!

Just not my year, is it???

Had my pre-OP assessment this morning ... and it looks like there is no way out of having the OP for the cyst removal. The staff nurse said that a cyst that size is highly unlikely to burst or to reduce in size to just leave it be.

Still have to have my pre-OP Ultrasound on Monday at the ungodly hour of 8am which will then give final say to OP or no OP.

IF I'm going to have the OP I'll be in hospital for 3-4 days, that means I'll be in for DHs birthday and I will miss the crop on Saturday as well... and my module 12 and the exam in December/January are would be in question depending on the method they use to cut me open - recovery may not allow strenuous exercise, and I'd believe that the deep tissue massage would be classified as that if they do classify hoovering as strenuous. Just glad I got the First Aid course out of the way .... putting people in Recovery position would have been definitely strenuous. :O

MIL offered to help with housework etc during recovery ... so I guess I'll be doing a "Crisis cleaning" the next couple of days!!!

The Boys are back in town....

Finally allowed to officially anounce that the Edinburgh Wolves have successfully gained full BAFL Member Status again and are allowed to apply to play in the 2007 season!!!

Pheeeew!! :) Hopefully we will be able to show everyone that the 2006 season (and our withdrawal from it) was only a blip ...

Had a nice team meeting on Sunday with lots of rules to follow through in future ... that should get us in the right position.

Qualified ... First Aider! :)

Well... would be nice to say I'm a qualified Sports Therapist but that has to wait until January hopefully.

But yes, I am now a qualified First Aider - had a 1 day Basic First Aid Course at the British Red Cross an am interested to take up membership with them as well... back in Germany I have been a member of the German Red Cross for 7 years and liked it a lot. Just won't be able to put in as many hours as in Germany due to Wolves and Youth Wolves etc.

But it was fun.... now off to search for "Nelly the Elephant" which is apparently the correct rhythm and lenght for your CPR cycle!!! :O

No swim!!!

arrrrgghhh!!! Had a slow start again today (feeling still exhausted and as if I don't get enough sleep during the night) and didn't start studying until 11am (had to wait for Tom to pick up the stuff for the Youth Wolves game tomorrow against Fife Fire) and then decided to go swimming at 4pm (once finished my 4x45 mins studying).

Took the car as I thought it would be a bit cold to walk back with wet hair ... and to use the car again (I don't drive very often ... err ... very seldom actually! ;o) ). Arrived to a full car park but didn't think anything about it. However, when I walked to the front desk and saw all those parents in the cafe area it dawned on me that it was Kiddies' swimming classes and that I wouldn't be able to go for a swim today....

Returned home as I didn't want to hang about for 1 hour and then got too involved with cooking dinner - so no swim today.

Will start going swimming and to the gym again regularly from Monday. If I'm going to have the OP on 15th I won't be allowed to go swimming for a while so want to get some swimming in beforehand.

Happy Halloween...

Well...our neighbours came around today for dinner (Pumpkin soup with Dried Tomato & Parmesan bread and Chocolate Fudge Pie - good ol' Jello!!) and the long awaited DVD night part 1! :)

We have been talking about watching DVDs for AGES but never managed it ... and now they are going to move to a new house (well.. it's an old house... :) )on 1st December... But not too far, so we probably will visit each other more often than we have done for the 4 years we're now living next door to each other!!

DH put on black jeans and his Batman T'shirt and used my Zag as the "Batman Sweety Dispenser" for the kids. Had surprisingly lots this year, and at least none who are just coming with the "Gie' us yer money" without any joke or song or whatever.

Have to check up on that "Penny for the Guy" thing... never heard of it!

We watched "The Majestic" - really good movie, never heard about it.

Looking forward to "cramming in" a couple more DVD nights with Vickie & Graham before they move. :)

Pumpkin Carving...

Well... my first attempt to carve pumpkins.... never done it before!! DH wanted a Batman Signal (and hand drew it on one of our pumpkins) and I used one of the templates for mine.

Didn't use the scoop provided in the pumpkin carving kit but followed the advice of one of my friends (thanks, Chris!!!) and used an Icecream scoop! VERY good for getting the flesh out of the pumpkin!! :)

Now just going to post two cards and the invitation for our neighbours for tomorrow evening.
