What a day!!

I am still totally knackered - yesterday was a looong day again, with Junior game in the morning and Seniors kicking off against the Manchester Titans at 2:30pm.

I had agreed with management that I would like to get time off "behind the scenes" duties from 12pm onwards so I could give my full attention to taping, giving DTM (Deep tissue massage) etc, so this time I missed watching our Juniors playing against the Clyde Valley Falcons. This was a bonus game (i.e. outwith the tournaments and as such won't be counted for the standings) and with the beginning of the summer holidays we had depleted numbers and several (if not all) players were playing both ways.

BUT the final result was 56 - 19, and that's against one of the top 2 Scottish Junior Teams. Because of our squad being nearly all rookies to the sport this year - we have graduated our star players to the Forth Valley Fusion this season - and our juniors being smaller than the West coast guys and even Inverness (what are they FEEDING them over there??? ;) ) we are still finding our feet. Our coaches see the desire to win and the improvements in our rookie squad though and are proud of our "Cubs".

As for the seniors game - it was dubbed the "Battle of the Soaps", due to Ricky Whittle (Hollyoaks' Calvin Valentine) playing for the Titans (and not just for a publicity stunt - that guy can play!) and our own John "Wombat" Wilmore hailing from the same town as "Neighbours", Melbourne AUS.

A hot and sunny day, and fortunately the forecast for heavy showers around 4pm didn't come true! We had a good ref crew, got good marks on the "Slavin Award" audit - just a shame our team didn't beat the Titans (who are still undefeated, mind, and a strong contender for Playoffs of the Div 2 North). Luke (668 x 749)

But yet again one of our rookies of 2009 (rookies to the sport I hasten to add!!) put all in and will make the headlines (Edinburgh Evening News, at least online if not on paper!)!! ;) Luke Jeacock (#52) picked up a fumble recovery in the 3rd Q and ran it in for a touchdown!!

This stayed the only score for the Wolves as we couldn't convert the PAT (Point after Touchdown - i.e. kick from Billy Mitchell) and didn't get more points on the board.

Our current position in our Division is 3rd (a big tumble from 1st just before our game against the Tigers a couple of weeks ago). Because of our points conceded we're even below the Clyde Valley Blackhawks even though we won against them (it's a weird mathematical thing!).

Our aim now is to win all remaining 3 regular games. We definitely have to WIN the games against the Tigers (away on 12th July) and the Blackhawks (home at 1st August) by more than 1 score between their points gained to be back on the top of the division and make it to the playoffs.
