10 on the 10th – June 2012

Ok… missed a couple of months there again, but things around here just are sooooo busy (twins have scheduled something nearly every day!!)…

When we were in Germany in April it came to mind the things my girls will feel as alien to them and they’ll never use them due to advanced technology etc. TECHNOLOGY ONLY. :)

1) Dial-up Internet connectionremember those Modem-noises?? Whistling and pinging etc?

 Funny, but horrible SLOOOW!! :D

2) Walkman/Discmanbe it the tape or the CD type. Far too big, and nowadays you can use your phone or an MP3/MP4 player that is tiny but still has tons of tracks on it!

3) Video camerayup, the big, bulky kind! Huge thing for personal use which would make you look nowadays you’re part of a film crew!! ;)
4) Film Camerathose develop the film kinda thing. Hah! They’ll never even KNOW what it means to take photos and not being able to DELETE them prior to printing!!!
5) Magnetic Tapemy dad still had 2 of those when I was a child, HUGE things and very big spools too! Was for music – would you believe?!?!? ;)
6) Telephone with a dialself explanatory!

7) Video tape Recorderyou might still have one of those, but they’re very much out of fashion and you probably need to go to a specialist shop to get parts/tapes etc!!
8) Tape recorderWe still have one of those integrated in our media station. But nobody will be sitting there, taping the Top 10 every week and swearing when the DJ is talking over your favourite song!!!

And of course they did come in a smaller version/portable – one of those I had as a child!! :D
And the pain when your tape got caught or pulled out … yeah… good/bad times!! ;)
9) FLOPPY DISKHah… those really floppy ones, not the smaller hard plastic ones! I remember playing a game and having to switch Floppy disks constantly due to size etc!! ;)

10) BBS – Bulletin Board SystemJust linked to dial-up internet for me! :) The time prior to Twitter, Facebook, Bebo etc. My haunt was “The Final Frontier” (or FF) (German BBS), chatting to friends, playing games etc. All very pixelated of course!! :D It was at times when you had “Internet Friends” but you would meet up at “UTs” – User Treffen (User Meets). Fabulous BBQs thanks to Gresley and his crew!! :D It was running from 1993 to 1999!!

More of those "10 Things on the 10th" are over at Shimelle's Blog! Have a look around! :)

I wonder what our children's children will find old-fashioned! My own kids always talked to my parents about "The Olden Days" ... they had no TV, a wireless and a fire in the grate!

Oh that was such a great idea for a 10 list! Totally remember so many of these things! The Walkman was my first big purchase as a kid :)

Wow, brilliant, a real trip down memory lane. I was explaining to my 4year old that I couldn't play on an Iphone when I was her age because they didn't exist then, and she was like 'what did you DO?'. lol. x
