And it seems that during times of hardship I pick up my blog again.

Last time it was during Brexit, but that was just one post with the final result, and that was it.

However, now that our schools are closed from Monday and my work being put on hold, but I don't know anything yet really, we may be called in for work depending on the plans for schools to help vulnerable students and helping students to reach a certain degree.

The problem is: nobody knows! There are special teams in place at council level to find solutions and make plans.

My boss told me we would get an email next week. I've got my work laptop here just in case.

Things last week have been very stressful, with my team setting up teams for year groups and individual classes ... but nothing was really made official until later in the week.

Wednesday to yesterday was a frantic preparing paper copies for students who don't have access to the remote learning option. And to finish off setting up teams.

The twins are underlying worried about Covid 19, but right now it feels like a normal weekend for them (apart from not meeting with friends, going to Gravity or swimming at the Leisure Centre). I think things will properly hit maybe end of next week, when it doesn't feel like part of a holiday.

I'm mentally totally exhausted. Didn't have the best sleep Thursday and Friday, so yesterday I went to bed at 8pm, watched some TV and nodded off at 10. Still feeling exhausted ... and dreading what will come really with 24/7 all family in our house.

I have so many plans for the time of school closure and being cooped up, which include crafting, decluttering/tidying, catching up on ironing, (re)learning to play the guitar and of course all the home schooling we're supposed to do.

However... right now my brain and body need a break. I am planning to just relax! Some people might not get that, but that's exactly what my body and mind need right now!

So... onto some brain dump blog posts - expect a lot of chaos of ideas/plans etc. ;)

It's effectly for ME... to keep me sane!

Warning - some mild swearing and POLITICS (in a life affecting way)!!

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1.25em; padding: 0px;">
Today I've been thinking about the current political situation in the UK and the whole uncertainty for EU Expats in the UK once the whole “Brexshit” hits the fan! We don’t get information, getting strung along. Hubby is more active in the whole thing (probably because he’s kinda keen for Scotland to go for IndyRef2 - mostly because Scotland voted to remain in the EU and because he sees a lot of issues with Westminster), and his brain is working slightly different (maybe a “side effect” of his Dyslexia?) and he can “see” things 3-4 steps ahead more so than others. There are things coming through about driving licenses (I had to swap my German one to get a UK one - which so far is still EU valid but that will all change once Brexit is through). The EU has been writing papers about that situation way back in January I believe, but the UK gov has not even touched on that subject. Lots of other things.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1.25em; padding: 0px;">
Sooo… guess what… today I have been looking in some forums about the option to move back to Germany. Do I want to move back to Germany? Actually, not really… I’m here in the UK for 20 years come October (with only 6 months in London and the rest of the time Scotland) - that’s nearly half my lifetime!!! I can only imagine that there will be a huge culture shock for me, given that Germany has changed dramatically since I left in the late 90s.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1.25em; padding: 0px;">
Then we have the issue of hubby speaking a bit German, and my girls barely understanding German. YAY!! Another huge rock throwing topic!! I had the best intentions of raising the girls bilingual, but with me having all Scottish friends and working in an all english-speaking job (back then and mostly now) it just didn’t work. And to keep in mind that I’ve lived in the UK for 13 years with NO NEED to speak or use my German much - my girls were only born in 2011. Some of my friends raised their kids bilingual (English & Austrian) where the mum spoke to the kids in English while the dad only spoke Austrian. While the kids understand Austrian, they will always reply in English. So I kinda felt windicated. My mum’s not happen that the girls are not speaking German, but .. as I said… not that easy, if I barely use German myself (really only happens when we’re going to visit my family = 1-2 times a year). Oh, and the added issue with the girls getting taught French in primary first now (used to be elective either French or German for the classes) and won’t start with Germany until they’re in P5 (that’s in 2 years).

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1.25em; padding: 0px;">
I’ve not even posted in those German Expats forums, because I don’t need any “external downbeating” and gasping that I didn’t raise my children bilingual. I know, I should have done, and with the whole Brexshit things would be so much easier for moving purposes (if needed). I am planning on pushing the German more again (all our Disney DVDs are bilingual btw - bought in Germany on purpose), but right now I’m kinda more beating myself up about not doing more.

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1.25em; padding: 0px;">
Then we have the whole thing about possible moving. Do we want to stay in the UK and see how things pan out? Do we want to seriously consider moving? Do I actually want to move back to Germany?!?!?! My life & friends are over here, I love my job … I don’t have that many friends left in Germany. We own our house here, while in Germany most people rent and I have NO idea how expensive it would be to buy/what the options are. What are the options for hubby and me job-wise? What about schools for the girls while their German is barely existent?

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1.25em; padding: 0px;">
While I’d prefer to be close to my family in Germany and retain the EU citizenship for hubby (girls are dual nationals, while I’m only German) and keep the close ties to Europe, it would be easier for us to move to an English speaking country. Hubby and I toyed with the idea way back before twins to move to Canada… Buuuuut… we’re on the wrong side of 40 now, so the point system is against us there I think. Job wise it would be easier to get to Canada for hubby than Germany I think though… Not sure if Ireland would be an option for us…

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Grande", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; margin-bottom: 1.25em; padding: 0px;">
Ok… right, I better shut up now… sorry for doing this brain dump and moan and angsty post. My problem right now is that we can see a lot of things going to shit and things getting worse here. And the worst part is that we have several people (interestingly my family in Germany as well) saying that things won’t be as bad, that we’ll be fine up in Scotland etc etc etc. Funnily enough, lots of people who are saying that now didn’t think the “leave the EU” vote would happen!! Track record there???

(hopefully)Well... we will see I think. Just decided to use my blog as a brain dump for lots of things now... life stuff, craft stuff kinda thing.

And probably will dump a lot more than I would post in Facebook (post length). I know that some people still seem to follow my blog in some way and will continue post a link to my Facebook for friends to look at.

There's a lot of things going on in my brain at the moment and I just need to dump it somewhere to get back to or maybe even getting some comments/suggestions from others, but don't need the latter.

Sooo... let's see how that is going.

However, you've left things quite late and then had to go to Germany for holidays. So, after you managed to finish all the pencil wands, mini cauldrons and most of the golden snitches, you decide to start on the robes... on the twins' birthday (the day before the party) at 5:30pm...

But all should be ok... because the pattern you found says it will only take 1 hour to make ...

Ok... I suspect somehow that's withouth ironing and cutting... or most likely that the lining fabric has the same width of the outer fabric so would be easier to cut? But of course my lining is a bit more than half the width of the outer fabric which resulted in me having to measure and then double them up and sew at the top.

It IS actually a very good pattern/instruction. I managed to get everything done like they said (mostly, but that's my measuring issue), however, I didn't see anything that mentioned a "cut the neckline"... which I had to "wing it" but it worked fine.

Fast forward to 2am Friday morning, I had finished 2 oversized robes (I wanted the girls to have lots of give to be able to still wear the robes when we go to Florida for their first ever visit at Universal (currently planned around 2020 so all the other things at Disney would be finished... Star Wars Land etc).

I then decided to do more of the wings for the snitches until 2:45am (which I finished all bar 2 on the day of the party with 1 hour spare - due to my stencil for the cake having issues with my silhouette cameo!).

Ok... Party day arrived and the girls put on their robes, which then resulted in me having to measure how much I had to take the length and arm length in (thanks soo much for Hemming Web! Didn't really want visible stitches 5" from the hem line!) - which was again done in time for the party (but again ... very last minute, and hubby wasn't happy about that).

Sooo... here we go... oversized robes first... one Hufflepuff, one Gryffindor...

Definitely between 5" and 6" give... so we should be ok I assume?!?!? ;)

Well... let's see the final result... and going nicely with the tie-dye house crest T-shirts I got from my swap partner in the "I want to live in the Burrows" Swap on Craftster.
Now I'm trying to recover ... and hubby and I both swore "NEVER AGAIN"... but then... that happened after last year's Star Wars Birthday Party...

Oh... and I have NEVER sewn anything that involved a lining. And the biggest clothing I've done was Miss Martian's "Leia" costume for Edinburgh ComicCon earlier this year (which... yeah, I know... I left to last minute as well... :o ).
I've not blogged a while... ;) (how often have I posted that over the years?!

Anyway... checking my blog for last year's Christmas Presents (only to realise that the present I was looking for was from 2014!) and realised I'm actually a week early for the "Christmas Panic" post... :D

Have I done any Journal Your Christmas / December Daily stuff? - NO
Have I baked ANY stollen or cookies yet? - NO
Have I done any homemade presents yet? - Partly (still to do more ... MUCH more... ;) )

Instead I've been through a huge social and school calendar for the girls... and had a 24 hour stomach bug ... and was 2 full days quarantined upstairs.

And I've done and sent out my Harry Potter Holiday Round 5 and Christmas Stocking Round 12 swaps.

Tomorrow stands under the signs of tidying the living room and BAKING with the girls me thinks ... and them writing their Christmas cards for school friends.

I might try to get some cards done myself for the ladies from the crop (Christmas Crop on Saturday! WAAAAH! Prep = zero ... as usual!).

Sooo ...all in all not really giving me any panic... yet... We can talk about that on Wednesday... ;)Kathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12451181833451644261noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21624962.post-66171354786622604952016-09-30T15:08:00.001+01:002016-09-30T15:08:17.327+01:00The Big word of the week is WORK - Brain dump - Help needed?!?I know I said I'd not be looking for work until 2017, but have been talking to friends who are just going back to work etc.

There's the age old question: What do I want to work? Do I want to go back into admin/pensions/secretarial work, or do I want a career change? At my age, would a change in career be an option? Or should I just trudge back into a "desk jockey job" that I don't like?

How many people are actually LOVING their job or have the job only because it's good pay and makes ends meet? And works around kids etc?

My main thoughts right now are: I would like a term-time job that works around the girls' school hours. We've been through a hellish time for 5 years to actually HAVE them, so I'd like to be able to spend as much time with them as I can. And yes, I actually would like to go back to work, just for my own sanity and to regain my own personality again, not being "mum/mummy/mami" or "K&M's mum".

That's the main thing. And given that I've mostly worked to get the money & benefits, not really in something I absolutely LOVE and am happy to return day in, day out ... what shall I do? What do I WANT to do?

I love the medical field, but that usually comes with shift work or hours that wouldn't work with term times. Would it be feasible to get a term-time job for the time being and do some studies around it to get a job later when the girls are at S1 say, for a job I really love?

So ... medical field. And sports ... and looking after people (running the Edinburgh Wolves and helping the "kids" - ages ranging 14 - 48 at that point!!! - And working with the Stirling Clansmen). And I'm crafty.

I've got my diploma in Sports Therapy, but given I've not practiced since I received the diploma (due to pregnancy and then the girls) and I was not insured (decided against it as it would have cost a lot of money for not really being able to do anything), so I assume my exam has lapsed and I'd need to do a resit at minimum. And I know that the Sports Rehab & Education people were looking into creating a governing body and that the course was planned to be at universities only in future (that was looked into in 2010 and I haven't followed up what the situation is at the moment) instead of the distant learning course with practical modules like I did.

Would I want to do Sports Therapy? Could I do it? Would I be able to get a job in a practice rather than working self employed (cost factor)?

Also - I know some of my friends work evening/night shifts and weekends, and that is not really something I'd like to do as I would like to see Doug and the girls as much as possible...

I've got no idea right now. It's just things floating around in my head ... any comments/suggestions are much appreciated.

Took the girls to Cramond beach after school, they had their lunch there. Weather was nice enough, the sun was out and despite quite a bit of wind the girls wanted to play on the beach and go on their bikes.

We met up with one of their P1 friends on the promenade and had lots of fun!

Managed to add 4 more photos to Rinda's scavenger hunt (3 of which from today). I'm confident I will manage all the items this summer!! :) And that despite a very late start.

So, that means I can finish things on Sunday during / after our shopping trip! Numbers 11, 18 and 21 to go. YAY! GO ME! ;)

Kathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12451181833451644261noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21624962.post-36662297594153184802016-09-11T21:23:00.002+01:002016-09-11T23:21:02.629+01:00It's September - NFL started again!!! And the annual discussion/debate... ;) PICK A TEAM, KAT!!!Soooo... NFL Season has kicked off ... and with the girls getting more and more into the sport my interest to actually WATCH games is coming back, too (I was in a "meh" state since the girls were born in 2011).

Queue the annual question/discussion/debate...

Usually starts with me telling people I like (American) Football and have been into the sport since 1991 (when the Frankfurt Galaxy was formed to play in the WLAF (later NFLE))...

Depending on the crowd, I get positive reactions, a blank look or very big enthusiasm. I also got the "that's just Rugby for pussies" (excuse my French), but that is rarely the case, due to the people I surround myself with.

From the "positive reaction" to "very big enthusiasm" groups usually comes the question:"What NFL team do you support?"

And that's where it gets a bit weird... because my answer so far will be ...

"I don't support a team (yet)!"

...

....

....

After that tumbleweed moment I get replies like "Surely you MUST support a team!" "How can you be into Football and not support a team?!" etc.

And then I have to explain... The rule for non-Americans to pick the team of the city or closest to the city you first set foot on US soil would mean I'd have to support the (Chicago) Bears. Ok... I didn't WANT to support the Bears, although I really liked their old stadium. ;)

I COULD have gone with the team closest in colours to the Frankfurt Galaxy, given the Galaxy was my first Football team I supported for quite some time, before I moved to Scotland and my then first team (for equal (?) number of seasons) I supported fiercely were the Scottish Claymores with the Galaxy second. For that reason it would have been the Minnesota Vikings (that would have been the 3rd US city I visited which has an NFL team). Again... I couldn't get into it.

My third option would have been going for the "Underdog" at that time, like the Claymores were the Underdogs of the NFLE for quite some time... soo... I thought I "could" have supported the (Cleveland) Browns.

But I didn't.

Instead I supported players ... players I knew from the NFLE which had a link to either the Galaxy or the Claymores. Which, in my case, were the following players/coaches:

Damon Huard (Galaxy QB, Dolphins, Patriots - not "allowed" to support - , Chiefs, 49ers - retired)

Dante Hall (Scottish Claymores WR, Chiefs, Rams - retired)

Then we had the exception of the rules (Galaxy & Claymores players only) - we met him in person, became with his aunt and met his parents, too.... and he shares my surname... ;)

Rob Adamson (Cologne Centurions QB, Panthers, 49ers, but didn't play for either)

And in 2015 I supported a team based on their then headcoach... :)

Jim Tomsula (Claymores Defensive Line Coach, 49ers)

Given age range I don't think there are many NFLE players still playing in the NFL which had connections to either the Frankfurt Galaxy or the Scottish Claymores.

Equals PICKLE! ;)

This year I'll probably get heckled even more to finally pick a team, given that my SuperTwins (at age 5) have already picked their NFL teams ... even if for interesting reasons... ;) Miss Martian supports the Miami Dolphins ("I like Dolphins, and it's Daddy's team!"), while Supergirl picked the Minnesota Vikings ("I like purple!").

We've thought that I might have to pick the Vikings, given that they have a German on their team, Moritz Böhringer, who has NOT been cut, they keep him on the practice squad!! Brings me back to the "colour scheme" option again. ;)

Well, we will see...

Obviously we have some of the 32 teams I am not allowed to pick... because of hubby's dislikes of certain teams or deep rivalries of his team (Miami Dolphins) with certain teams.

So ... in hubby's eyes that DEFINITELY rules out: Patriots, Jets & Cowboys.

Hubby's reason for supporting the Miami Dolphins is the age old "First team I saw a live game" ... the rule of "First city I set foot on US soil" could have also been Tampa Bay Buccaneers really - first city being Orlando for him. Or did he land in Newark for a stop over before flying to Orlando?!?!

Mmmmh... we'll see... maybe I'll pick a team this season... ;)

Fortunately my situation doesn't keep me from doing fairly well in NFL Fantasy Football leagues .... :D

Looks like I will win yet again the annual "household" grudge match... Sorry, Doug ... I'm not sorry!! :D

Kathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12451181833451644261noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21624962.post-55136252340248809792016-09-11T13:05:00.001+01:002016-09-16T16:52:38.710+01:0015 years today ... and still is heartbreaking!15th anniversary of a very sad day.

I've just read my blog post from 2011, and it's still hard to understand how this could happen and it is still affecting people in different ways.

I wonder if my girls will see some memorial bits in the news today. How do you even try to explain to children that there are very nasty people out there who inflict things like that on a lot of people, actually on the whole human race?

I know that we've had other attacks since then and closer to home as well, but in my eyes this was "the big one", maybe even the one which started everything off. It was too close to home back then too, as we knew people living & working in NYC at that time.

We've not been back since 2010, when the memorial was still being built, but I would like to go back to New York one year with the girls. To see the finished memorial. And maybe try to explain (which is nigh impossible! Nobody CAN explain an action like that! There was no rational thought behind it!) to the girls, explain to myself.

To think that things are still going on, even worse ... does nobody learn from history?!?!? Can we not all agree to make the world a better place for our children????!!

I'm sad for all the families directly affected by 9/11, who lost loved ones. Both in NYC and affected by United 93 and at the Pentagon. And for everyone who've been affected by what happened that day ... but this will be a really high number of people.

And I WANT to keep note of what happened ... !!! To remember!

History of the 9/11 attacks

And I still listen to Don Henley's "New York Minute" every year on September 11th, despite the lyrics not fitting. Just the refrain!

Kathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12451181833451644261noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21624962.post-8498928804906588412016-09-06T10:53:00.002+01:002016-09-06T10:53:46.078+01:00Some more scavenging... and collapsible veinsBlood test needed today (just to check things), and with the weather being DRY (high humidity and feeling as if thunder is about to hit soon, but DRY!) I decided to get some exercise and walk the 20 mins to the other medical practice.

Due to muggy weather my veins played up a bit and played "collapsible" hide & seek - my history with blood tests pre-Twins wasn't that great (rolling veins, lots of poking to get a vein by DOCTORS - nurses usually get them quickly), but as I don't need constant blood tests anymore since the girls were born the nurses usually got the veins in one go. Today we had 2 attempts (one on each arm) but a medical student (feel so bad for her!), and then the nurse went for my hand ... I'm not sore or anything, high pain threshold and being used to that anyway... ;)

Nice walk back, and I managed to get 2 more photos for the scavenger hunt.

10 on the 10th for the first (?) time in 2016, so let's do something tongue-in-cheek. "I'm going down with this ship" (fandoms only)... LOL.
Still not fully awake I thought he'd made a joke... but no... that's the result!

I can't believe the result, 52:48 ... this was about the pre-poll info we had yesterday ... 51:49 I think I quoted for REMAIN. But this time it's LEAVE.

My head is thumping, my stomach is in a twist and I tried my best to keep it together for the girls, but I heard so many people spouting rubbish on TV that I broke down in tears in front of them.

How am I to tell my nearly 5 year old twins WHY I am crying, WHY I am so angry? How do I explain to them all the uncertainties we have right now? How do I explain to them how people could make this decision and how that will impact THEIR LIFE?

How can the older generation, who has benefited from the EU A LOT make that decision and effectively take away what they received from their children/grandchildren?

How can people say "It's not about immigration" when quite clearly it is high on the list and was very high on the list for campaigning ... or should I say SCAREMONGERING?

Then there's the issue about money that's been paid to the EU ... Have the people who have voted OUT checked their facts? All the funding we get back from the EU? One of my friends fears that her brother and father will lose their job as their work is relying heavily on EU funding. Hubby's work relies on foreign students coming to Edinburgh.

Apparently without the EU will will miraculously have more funding for the NHS, less cuts at schools, more housing etc. Well...last time I checked budget cuts etc are NOT decided by the EU!

I am Angry... disappointed by the majority of the country I decided to call my home, because I saw it as a tolerant, inclusive, melting pot of cultures and nationalities.

And there seems to be a lot of anti-German movement where people are saying nasty things about Angela Merkel and there's a lot of mentioning Nazis etc again. Fortunately I haven't been at the end of those comments and hopefully won't be.

I am GLAD that I'm living in Scotland and not in England. The Scots have voted 62% to remain, and Edinburgh was 74%.

There is the possibility that we're getting another chance of an Independence Referendum,

Yet there are people spouting shite in interviews and on the Internet that Scotland shouldn't be allowed another referendum, because we voted to stay within the "union". Obviously they have NO CLUE that lots of people voted NO in the IndyRef because there was scaremongering from Westminster that becoming independent would mean we would have to leave the EU/would have to apply for our own membership.

We, on the other hand, feared the current situation when putting our mark beside the YES box at the IndyRef.

One of my first posts on FB today was this:

People going on about democracy, and we should just accept the results.

Well, in my eyes the Scottish Votes never made any difference in Westminster decision. And that's why 45% of Scots voted YES in the IndyRef.

We didn't make a large dent in the Westminster elections, and we definitely didn't make a dent in the EU Ref despite voting 62% REMAIN.

Maybe they SHOULD have taken the EU Ref per different Home Nation!!

I am NOT happy with the result, and I DON'T think saying "it's a democratic decision" can brush over this! So NO, I'm NOT going to bow down like we were expected after the IndyRef and be happy and concede.

This was NOT a game, this has a much BIGGER impact on my family and friends than the IndyRef would have done.

As I said before... we have voted YES back then because we saw exactly THIS coming!!

We were told "how can you vote YES if there's the uncertainty of things". Well, thanks for giving me and my family EVEN MORE UNCERTAINTY with the BREXIT result!!

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: small; font-style: normal; line-height: normal;">LEAVE parties retracting their promises, the stock market giving the Pound a blow.. all really as was to be expected...

We don't have any idea how that is going to affect us as a family of mixed nationalities. Hubby has been browsing the Internet this morning while checking poll results and said that it would cost us more than £1000 to get me UK citizenship.

We definitely will get dual citizenship for the girls.

We may consider moving away from the UK.

My parents are worried, hope that we're doing ok and of course are on tenterhooks about what is going to happen.

We don't know. We don't have the information. The majority of a country has voted for the unknown, for the uncertainty.

But at least up here in Scotland we have this:

Kathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12451181833451644261noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21624962.post-68077423569895987912016-06-23T12:56:00.002+01:002016-06-23T15:02:16.015+01:00EU Referendum Day I'm totally puzzled at that. Stumped, that people would even consider voting out of the EU. And the fact that the same people who gave us hassle in the Scottish Independence Referendum are now voting for "BREXIT" instead of "BREMAIN".

I am worried about the comments I've read on FB pages (not mine, fortunately) from people who want to leave. Comments that are very racist and painfully WRONG in their argument etc. There are honestly people out there who think that the EU is the source of all the wrong in their country. The EU is the reason for housing shortage, for NHS and school cuts/problems.

Apparently the EU immigrants are at fault for everything. The BREXIT people want a point system for immigration, like Australia has. European immigrants are taking away jobs and live on benefits. Or just come over to the UK to receive benefits.

All this sounds scarily like the comments I've heard in Germany way back when we had the Neonazis coming out of the woodwork. And that's probably why I'm really scared about this vote.

My friends told me again and again in the run up to today that there will be no majority for BREXIT, nobody would be that stupid.

Well... I just read somewhere that the polls state 51:49 for BREMAIN. In my eyes that's far too close for comfort!!

I'm living in the UK since October 1998. I have worked and have paid taxes from October 1998 until June 2011 (and that end date only because of maternity leave and deciding to raise my girls as much as I can before going back to work, given that it took us 5 painful years to have them). I've been helping out at the girls' nursery, have been giving to charity etc.

I have other friends who, like me, work and live in the UK for more than 10 years. They didn't have any links to the UK but moved here anyway. I have other friends who are half British and have lived here since childhood, and because they have not applied for a UK passport are NOT ALLOWED TO VOTE. Like me.

Others told me I could have had the right to vote if I'd have applied for dual citizenship. But with us being in the EU - WHY THE HECK WOULD I HAVE TO? That's the whole thing of the EU, you don't have to have dual citizenship! Free movement between member states!

And yet ... there are BRITS who are NOT working and have NO NOTION of getting job, live on benefits and consider having more kids to get MORE benefits. And don't have a proper grasp of speaking or writing THEIR OWN LANGUAGE!

And they're allowed to vote.

Nationalism is NOT a very good thing. And blaming outsiders for your internal issues is not right. So ... I don't think it's the EU's fault that there are cuts in schools/NHS etc. That is your OWN government YOU have voted in (and while I'm allowed to vote in local elections, I'm not allowed to vote for national government).

There's again my thoughts that any person in politics should do it on voluntary basis ... or only get a capped salary (reasonably in comparison to the working society). No elitists in politics who get ridiculous salaries and decide to cut more for average earners!!

As for immigration - the migration from non-EU countries is higher than from EU countries. And on the flip side, the migration of Brits shows that EU countries are highest on the list for expats to retire to. Namely Spain.

*EDIT*
There are skilled immigrants (doctors etc), and non-skilled immigrants. Lots of the non-skilled immigrants take up jobs lots of Brits (and in Germany lots of Germans to be honest!) feel beneath them (fruit picking, cleaning etc). I don't think that lots of people immigrate to live on the dole.

Another thing with the EU: How many people went for medical treatment to mainland Europe because the waiting lists in the UK are too long? How many people enjoy a quick holiday to EU countries because it's cheap?

I'm also annoyed at the hate that is going against Germany (and France) and the "influence" Germany has over the EU.

I'm not saying that all is sunshine etc in Germany, I know it's NOT. I know that it is a boiling pot and that nationalism/racism is raising it's ugly head again and again... I HATE that, and I am scared that it happens, and I'm worried about some comments from friends & family in Germany.

To be fair, I moved to the UK for work. Transfer between the Frankfurt office to the London office. I stayed because I thought that the Brits were more tolerant about immigrants and more of a cultural mix. I definitely thought that about the Scots I met (in the beginning through the NFL EUROPE - kinda in the name, eh?).

Now I'm sitting here and worry what this vote could mean for me & my family. And I really HATE the fact that I may have to look into dual nationality for my girls and me. Because we shouldn't be in this situation.

It is all so bloody backwards, going from very open and tolerant and INTERNATIONAL world to lots of nationalism and hate and racism and plain IDIOCY! And this blaming society, putting the blame to external factors instead of looking at their own country first!

I mean... what has the world come to where the UK considers leaving the EU and Trump is the Republican Presidential Candidate 2016 frontrunner in the USA??!?!?!?!

I have to wait with baited breath for the outcome of the votes ... and then see what that means for me, my family and friends.
After I had signed up for Shimelle's class "Cover to Cover" back in 2012 (the class is available self paced via Shimelle's website) and given I'm a "Shimelle- aholic" ;), it was clear to me to sign up for her newest class "The Scrapbook Process".

I was thinking about the "album" process in my scrapbooking... I have an idea how to do it, and I like Shimelle's way of having her albums -(chronological albums (i.e. annual ones with just layouts using photos that were taken that particular year) and then have separate albums for special events (holidays, wedding, honeymoon, cruise etc - Shimelle calls them "upgrade albums")).

I've yet to do that though... as I've just been scrapping "ad hoc" and never really planned albums ... bar 1.5 albums for the Edinburgh Wolves.

Now ... if we set aside the issue of TONS of photos unscrapped, no layouts planned at all etc ...

I now came back from our Florida trip with
1500 - 2000 photos!!!

(I think... could be more ... between me and the Disney Photo Pass that is ... haven't taken into account any photos taken by hubby or the inlaws!)

I've kinda amassed a lot of "We R Memory Keepers" divided 12x12 page protectors which I thought I'd use for this "planned" album ... I also thought of printing photos not only in my trusted 4x6 but also try 3x4 and a few bigger sizes (6x8 or bigger?) ... but how to select which photo to print in which size?

To make matters "worse", I've got 300 print credits with photobox which will run out on 6 July... and I really would use them for the Disney/Florida photos (and I've already extended the time by 2 weeks to get the photos/sizes sorted and then start printing ... because I know fine well... 300 prints will only make a tiny dent into the big lot of photos!).

The other "crafty headache" I have (today on top of very nasty endo pain and real headaches) is ... how to keep the album together? First I thought I hold everything together by Mickey's colour scheme (red, black, white and yellow), but we have been to Universal, Sea World and Legoland too, plus there are photos from the flight and the villa.

Soooo ... how to keep it all together? Maybe I should just go with Shimelle's idea of a "camera" on every layout somewhere?

Suggestions?

The aspirations for 2016 were....

General/Non-crafting

Get a part time job after summer (a bit at least ... to get back into my being "Kat" and not "mummy/mami/mum" etc. )
Actually... Doctor suggested to take 3-6 months out from anything really once girls started school (daily tension headaches have returned ... but I AM looking for a part time job for later this year!!).

Lose another stone (or 1.5 ... we'll see)
Bit stuck since WW changed from ProPoints to Smart Points ... but hopefully will get there eventually...

Declutter the house
After Con and holiday...

paint living room/get new couch
That'll be on the plan for June/July

sort out girls' "play room" on middle floor
That'll be on the plan for June/July

Declutter crafts/get craft room/study set up
Hoping to get that started this Friday ... will be a long ongoing thing for the year...

More Geocaching with the girls!
Definitely will do that... it's on the plan and we've done a bit more already.

Crafting goals/aspirations

52 scrapbook layouts in 2016 (I think I can manage that ... I think I've done about 12 max per year since the girls were born... :o )
Ummmm... done 1 layout so far... but hopefully get some more done this month... ;)

Doctor Who Stitchalong Quilt
After May

Harry Potter/Fandom bookshelf quilt
After May

Disney Princesses/Winnie the Pooh pillows/quilts for the girls
Hopefully in June/July with at least pillows done for girls' birthday.

DC Quilt or something for hubby
After May

Learn to double-knit and make a scarf for myself (and maybe one for the girls and hubby, too).
Maybe get to look into that and learn basics this month, but scarves will have to wait til later.

USE MY STASH (ok... a couple of purchases are allowed)
Yup... doing that already.

<strike>Make sure to restock KatsGeekKrafts leisurely and not with a big push before ComicCon</strike>
Was a bit more of a big push, but more leisurely than for last year's ComicMart!!

Restock KatsGeekKrafts for the ComicMart in November without rush (let's try that one again, shall we? ;) )

Most likely make favours for my BIL's wedding in September

Make a baby blanket or something for Susan & Scott who expect their first child in October. Wonder if she'd mind something Ninja Turtles (Scott would LOVE that one ;) )?!? Well, I'll find out what theme I should go for.

TM Patch Swaps ... easily done and I like them.

Well... it's not looking too bad, is it? ;)

Ok, the whole "keep blogger updated" thing didn't happen, of course... what was I thinking?!?!?! With the whole crafting thing and even more the social calendar of the Hobbitses ...

Ah well, let's try how it works now.

The weekend saw the Edinburgh Comic Con 2016 and I was manning my own stall both days (in the past it was always hubby and his "minions" - i.e. friends of ours - who helped with this stall selling my stuff) with early mornings and lots of standing (broken up with a bit of sitting).

Fab atmosphere at the new venue (EICC) made for real Comic Con feel, lots of space and lots of great Cosplay going on.

Items sold nicely, and the Hobbitses arrived in their costumes and had lots of fun with all the people being dressed up. They LOVED Elsa (they constantly stopped on the way out of the building to shout "goodbye Elsa!!"), the Star Wars props and taking photos with the props and with Green Arrow and Harley Quinn. :) Supergirl being without fear, while Miss Martian was more timid and needed some coaxing (well, she didn't want to have her photo taken with Green Arrow, which is nothing against The Arrow really! ;) ).

Now time out ... but quiet day has turned into bickering kids in living room (I really have to start transforming the big spare bedroom into their play room!!) so definitely NOT quiet!!! :o

We had the 3rd birthday party invite for this month arriving today, and 3 play dates are set up for this week alone! Seriously, the Hobbitses/SuperTwins have a busier social calendar than me!!

More crafty stuff coming along this week, but no more KatsGeekKrafts for the time being (wait... I've got orders for 3-4 kids' t-shirts.... huh!) until June-ish, me thinks. Then leisurely prepping for the Edinburgh Comic & Toy Mart in November (yeah, because the "leisurely" happened this time round!! ;) ).

Anyway... I suspect I will update the blog a bit more regularly now.

Aspirations for 2016We don't do New Year resolutions in our household ... but aspirations are fine. ;)

Soooo .... what are the plans/aspirations for 2016??

General/Non-crafting

Well... that's the idea for aspirations at least. Might get changed/added, but that's the outline... ;) Looks actually a bit daunting... :o

No resolutions here, just aspirations, which I may post tomorrow or Saturday - whenever I find the time.

Just a quick "Happy New Year and all the best for 2016" for anyone who's reading my blog. ;) I hope to post a bit more again. ;)

Sugar, it's only 10 days to Christmas and I haven't done ANYTHING yet!!!" post ... ;)

Well... the 2 packages to Germany have been sent in time at least (that COULD have been prevented, had I started the presents maybe in November???! Then I could have taken the presents with me on our trip (and sent one internally there and hand off the others)).

And we baked one batch of cookies (well... I made the dough, the girls did the mixing, started helping with the cutting out and then both got evicted from helping due to not following instructions despite being told 3 times each)...

I've got 2 to 4 handmade presents to do (depending if the girls get their Disney Princesses PJs now or for their birthday). And maybe some cards for family and maybe for (crafty) friends (at least I had the foresight to obtain their addresses).

Also was hoping to make at least 2 more batches of cookies (might be more) and a Stollen (this year only 1 ... 2 would be excessive ... but maybe for guests?).

Then tidy the house and get decorations up...

Journal your Christmas/December Daily ... what's that???? I've started writing down some thoughts for each day, but haven't done any JYC yet, so that's hopefully some catch up too.

Oh... and then there's Twin entertainment ... like their Wriggly Nativity on Wednesday (bang goes my 3 hours at home to do something there), going swimming on Thursday, they probably want to go to the Drumbrae Library Hub for another Crafty Friday again ... and on Tuesday is their last day at nursery!!

And the tree needs picking up on Saturday morning!!

Doug and I are going to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Friday evening with the girls being at the Grandparents for a sleepover, and I was actually wanting to pop into town for a bit shopping (preferably WITHOUT the twins) and I actually had hoped to go to the gym again for a bit...

Personally, I blame the Comic Mart (ok, could have planned/done the work from September/October onwards....) and the family trip to Germany (can't do anything about it ... it's too short and too much packed in though! ;) ).

Will try to update my progress ... if there is any.. ;)
